Experience

Before a 10-year stint as director of development and communications for the Public Health Research Institute (PHRI) a medical research organization, I worked in higher education fundraising as a regional campaign director for the University of Pennsylvania’s Campaign for Penn, the first successful $1 billion capital campaign in higher education.  I also spent five years as vice president of development and communications at Bideawee, one of the oldest animal welfare organizations in the country. From May 2004 through March 2005, I served as acting CEO.

I use this broad-based experience to help clients develop specific plans and programs that effectively reach their audience(s). In some cases that means high-level strategy, planning, training and the development of new programs and materials. In others it means jumping right in and assisting with implementation:  writing and editing grants, speeches, web content, press materials, brochures or direct mail letters.

My writing and editing skills have been honed through projects that focus on education—preparing E-commerce cases for a college textbook, writing study guides for students taking AP exams and preparing for the SATs and writing chapters for a review book for nurses studying for their licensing exam. With the scientific director of the medical research institute, I co-authored “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Dangerous Diseases and Epidemics.”
